Existing Mathematics examination was considered difficult for the certain group of Students. Those students don’t want to continue the mathematics subject in their higher studies. CBSE on taking note of this decided to split the Mathematics subject as two different papers i.e. Basic Mathematics and Standard Mathematics. Basic Mathematics meant for the students who does not going to pursue mathematics in their higher studies it will be less difficult paper compared to the standard mathematics paper.
Choosing Mathematics Paper
Students can choose the paper themselves according to their wish. If a student want to study arts in their under graduate level they can choose Basic Mathematics paper. If a student want to pursue engineering or Mathematics in their undergraduate level they can choose Standard mathematics paper.

Marking Scheme of Class 10 CBSE Mathematics Paper
CBSE Class 10 Mathematics have two papers. Syllabus will be same for the papers but the difficulty level will be different for the papers. Basic Mathematics will be easier than Standard Mathematics Paper. There are four sections in the mathematics paper Section A, B, C and D. First section is Multiple Choice Questions with 1 mark each, Second Section B is 2 mark questions,Section three C is 3 mark questions, Section D is 4 mark questions. Total marks is 80 and time duration is 3 hours.
