Your Home (or Anywhere) Is Your Office

This one goes without saying, but it’s worth mentioning anyway. When you work from home, you can work from literally anywhere in your house – work from your bed, or even a hammock, if you wanted to!

Working from the comfort of your own home can actually increase productivity, since you don’t have to deal with the regular distractions that you would otherwise face in an office. You can put on some of your favorite music in the background, have a cup of coffee whenever you want, and even eat at your desk.

The increased sense of relaxation generally makes people more productive.

Saving Money

When you don’t have to pay money for gas to fuel your daily, boring, and often unpleasant commute to the office, you’ll notice an immediate change in your bank account. But, you’ll also notice that you save money in other areas as well.

You won’t have to force yourself into a pair of polished shoes and a tailored suit if that isn’t your style – no more separate wardrobes for your work life and the rest of it. You’ll also be able to save on food, as you can easily make yourself lunch and coffee from home.

Becoming More Independent

Since you won’t have any colleagues sitting just a few feet away from you, or a tech team on the floor above or below you, you will find that you develop the skill of becoming more proactive and looking for your own solutions to common problems. You can obviously still ask questions, but you can just do a quick Google search most of the time.

You could even download a guide if you want to find the answer quickly each time you need to. You will also develop some skills simply because they are necessary to work remotely, efficiently, like writing emails that are more concise and clear, or a sensitivity to your team’s schedules.

Work on Your Own Schedule

Pretty much all of the remote work to be done these days can be done while operating on a pretty flexible schedule. If you’re a content creator or web developer, you can do your work at pretty much any time you want, as long as you are meeting your deadlines – a score for the nocturnal folk of the world!

If you are required to work during specific hours, then you will more than likely still have some break time – which can be used however you want. Even if your break is only 15 minutes long, you’ll be able to do things during that time that wouldn’t be possible in an office – practice an instrument, take a power nap – whatever!

It’s Easier to Stay Connected

Many people fear that they will be lonely once they start working from home, but there are so many communication tools that make keeping in touch way easier. Some let you have fun with “bots”, emojis, or silly video chat effects.

Staying Focused Is Easier

If you have a little bit of determination, a steady routine, and willpower, then you’ll quickly learn how to stop being distracted by your phone, your TV, or the dishes.  You’ll probably find that you get more work done remotely than you were at your office, since you’re able to control your workspace more.

When you really need to concentrate when working remotely, all you need to do is change your group status to “busy”, and get working.
