The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology SCTIMST is one of the premier autonomous medical schools, and an Institute of National Importance in India established in 1973 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was founded by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the last ruling king of Travancore, for the benefit of the people of Kerala. The institute is under the Administrative Control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Sri. P. N. Bhaskar, the then Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, inaugurated the Sree Chitra Tirunal Medical Center in 1976 when patient services including inpatient treatment got underway.
