About Bharathidasan University
Bharathidasan University (BDU) is a university in the city of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. It has affiliated colleges in the districts of Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, district, Tiruvarur and Tiruchirapalli. It is a recognized university, supported by the University Grants Commission of India. All major faculties of science and arts are represented. The University is an affiliating one with the jurisdiction over the eight districts of Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam. The University area lies in the strategic central part of Tamil Nadu, covering the Cauvery delta, traditionally known as the intellectual capital of the state.
There are 138 colleges affiliated to the University including 123 Arts and Science Colleges and 3 Colleges of Fine Arts. Among them, 8 government and 11 government aided colleges to have an autonomous status. There are Ten constituent colleges in Perambalur, Orathanadu, Lalgudi, Aranthangi, Inamkulathur-Srirangam Taluk, Vedaranayam, Thiruthuraipoondi, Nannilam, Nagapattinam, and Veppur. There are totally 55 UG programs and 62 PG programs conducted in the affiliated colleges and the total strength of the students studying in the affiliated colleges is 1,14,276.
